Examining Wildfire Spread Variables for Assessing Forest Burn Vulnerability

نویسندگان

چکیده

The scale and danger of wildfires are a growing concern in Western Canada. Northwest Fire Centre is one six designated wildfire management districts the Canadian Province British Columbia. It covers 25 million hectares, or quarter area province. centre sees greatest burned from spread province, although it experiences lowest number active annually. This study examined two Sentinel-2 images capturing ‘before’ ‘after’ major that took place Lutz Creek within 2018. Higher-risk areas were identified by combining Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, Water Index slope gradient variables. When was included, Moderately High burn vulnerability categories increased to ~54% analysed, compared ~33% when not included. Together, all three variables provide basis for more accurate assessment forest vulnerability.

Examining the Potential of Forest Residue-Based Amendments for Post-Wildfire Rehabilitation in Colorado, USA

Wildfire is a natural disturbance, though elemental losses and changes that occur during combustion and post-fire erosion can have long-term impacts on soil properties, ecosystem productivity, and watershed condition. Here we evaluate the potential of forest residue-based materials to rehabilitate burned soils. We compare soil nutrient and water availability, and plant recovery after applicatio...

wind effect on wildfire and simulation of its spread (case study: siahkal forest in northern iran)

lack of fire behavior studies and the immediate needs posed by the extent of the fire problem in forests of iran require that extensive studies be conducted to develop models to predict fire behavior in the region.in this study, farsite fire area simulator was applied to simulate spread and behavior of two real fires that had occurred in northern forests of iran during 2010 summer and fall seas...

A model for assessing ignition, flame spread, and burn hazard potential of a multilayered jacket.

An analysis is presented of ignition, flame spread, and skin burn associated with the ignition and burning of a multilayered jacket. The important physical processes can all be detailed based on simple thermophysical modeling. The ignition process associated with proximity to a radiant heat source is analyzed to see how a change in external (outer) fabric could have diminished the likelihood of...

Dynamic Data Driven Application System for Wildfire Spread Simulation

Wildfires have significant impact on both ecosystems and human society. To effectively manage wildfires, simulation models are used to study and predict wildfire spread. The accuracy of wildfire spread simulations depends on many factors, including GIS data, fuel data, weather data, and high-fidelity wildfire behavior models. Unfortunately, due to the dynamic and complex nature of wildfire, it ...
